First Presbyterian Church of Lexington is an active community of faith with a simple purpose. We glorify God by engaging in worship, pursuing justice, and nurturing all who enter our doors.

For more than 225 years, First Church has been in the heart of Lexington. When Kentucky was the frontier, First Church was among the earliest faith communities on that frontier. The frontier was the place where the streams of tradition ran full flood into a new and unknown future. The frontier is still the same place of boundary and edge, of past and future, of tradition and reformation and transition, adaptation and change.

We remain committed to the frontier at the beginning of the twenty-first century. We are a contemporary faith community of long-standing tradition. The frontier of faith today calls us to an open hearted and open minded way of life, as we follow after Jesus who invites all to “come and follow me.”

The earliest Christians, those who chose to follow the Jesus Way, gathered every week to sing, pray, eat, share stories and support one another. Two thousand years later we continue the same practices.

This faith community is active in a variety of ways. We worship every week and every day of the week. We are engaged in mission that changes the lives of others. We are in hospitals, nursing homes and elsewhere supporting folks with prayer and caring conversation. We are engaged in study throughout the week with regular opportunities to read scripture together, eat together and sing and pray together.

Our hope is that the material on this website will provide a number of paths for you to learn more and discover new community with old friends and new friends alike. Look around and linger for awhile. If you have questions or suggestions, please share them with us. We look forward to growing broader and deeper in our relationships with God, one another, and the world.

Blessings and peace, Mark
