2019 Pilgrimage to Montgomery

First Presbyterian will take a group by bus to Montgomery, Alabama on a pilgrimage to explore the sites and memorials to our nation’s struggle for civil rights. This 4-day trip is ideal for individuals and families alike; we will leave in the morning of Friday Feb 15 and return to Lexington on the evening of Monday, Feb 18 (which is President’s Day, and a day off from school in Fayette County Public Schools).

In Montgomery we will focus on the newly-opened National Memorial for Peace and Justice, a museum and memorial focused on lynching. Montgomery is also home to the Rosa Parks Museum, the Legacy Museum, and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. On Sunday morning, we’ll worship together on Sunday as guests at the historic Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, enjoying the sounds of the American Spiritual Ensemble, who are on tour in the area. Time permitting, we will also visit the Edmund Pettus Bridge in nearby Selma and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Join us for fellowship and a deepened understanding of our shared history as we renew our commitment to equality among all people. Trip costs will be hotel, meals, and museum admission tickets. First Presbyterian will cover the cost of the bus.
